This large Victorian papier-mâché tray dates to the mid-19th century, featuring a shaped scalloped rim and a rich black lacquered ground. The center is decorated with an elaborate floral arrangement composed of iridescent mother-of-pearl inlay, polychrome details, and gilt decoration. The surrounding floral motifs retain traces of the original gilding, showing attractive age-related wear and patina.
